I think that feminism is definitely needed in modern society. We have certainly made progress in gender equality over the last century, but much more remains to be done. Feminism has made important contributions to the changes we have seen to date, and I believe that it will continue to do so going forward.
I agree with the other responses. Women’s rights have progressed hugely over the past century but there is still conscious and unconscious bias that negatively influences women’s lives and career prospects. I think that as the years go by, attitudes and norms will continue to change.
Feminism is very important, especially at the era we live. It’s important to understand that women are as able as males and they should be respected, receive equal pays and a myriad other things! We are lucky to see how we are changing and we are embracing feminism and women’s rights (finally!), but there’s still much work that needs to be done!
Definitely. When you think that over the past 2000+ years of human existence, half of the population has been oppressed (less rights, less ability to decide for themselves, etc) because the other half could ovepower them, and that feminism has been around for less than 10% of that time, you can start to get a picture of the immense inequality that a system like that left in its wake. Even if it’s not immediately obvious to us(in some of the most westernized societies) all the ways in which women are still being oppressed, it doesn’t mean we should stop being vigilant, watching out for oppression and inequality, and fighting it every time we spot it. Imagine how much talent has been wasted because someone wasn’t allowed to go to school because they were a woman. To put it in other ways, if you replace ‘feminism’ with ‘I believe we all should have equal rights and opportunities, no matter what gender/sex you are’, then yes, I believe we still need, and will forever need feminism.
