I don’t really work in research anymore, but maybe one day I will go back to conducting research. I’m more of a clinician now.
It would be good to be able to find out something new about how to reach as many people as possible – solving the long-waiting list problem would be great. Maybe digital technologies can help.
How a 3 pound blob of grey goo can create consciousness. It’s a venerable philosophical question, and one that it still mysterious despite how much we’ve already learned about how the brain works.
Understanding how (and most importantly, why) the left and right side of our brains are different. If you think about it, our left and right arms, legs, thumbs, etc are pretty much the same, but when it comes to our brains, the left and right halves seem to be doing quite different things in different functions. It really puzzles me why that happens! And if we knew more about it we might understand better why some people are right handed, or why the left side of our brain is more important for language, and then we’d be able to help people that develop problems in those functions.
hmm very interesting question, probably in the area of Neuroscience and Artificial Intelligence; understanding how our brain is creating consciousness and how we can replicate this in order to help us, e.g. robots to do risky jobs instead of humans and reduce accidents etc.
